Introduction to the Texas International Business Council (TIBC)
The Texas International Business Council (TIBC), a non-profit organization, is a private sector initiative dedicated to the support of Texas business, government, and trade organizations through international trade activities, market development, and market expansion.
TIBC has demonstrated relationships with key industry leaders across Texas and in overseas markets including the Middle East, Western Europe, Eastern Europe, the Balkans, Africa, Canada, and Mexico.

Dr. John R. Litaker meets with Peter Piot, Dean of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine
The TIBC's Dr. John Litaker recently met with Professor Peter Piot and members of the board of the American Friends of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in New York City as part of planning activities to further support the London School in North America. This meeting coincided with the opening of the United Nations General Assembly, of which Professor PIot was a former undersecretary general and executive director of the UNAIDS program. Professor Piot was quoted in a New York Times article on September 19, 2011 on issues related to availability of essential oncology medicines in developing countries on the day in which this meeting took place.
Dr. Litaker and members of the board of the American Friends work closely with Professor Peter Piot, the School’s director, on strategic and operational initiatives in North America. This includes alumni relations, fundraising, and business and industry cooperation. "Public health is both local and global," says TIBC governing council member Dr. Litaker. "What happens here on the ground in Texas and what happens on the ground in other countries impacts the health of populations. It is important for Texas, the United States, and the world to take the experience and lessons learned from Texas and support infrastructure, capacity, and capability building around the world."
TIBC is a sponsor of the Austin International Awards program
The TIBC is proud to be a sponsor of the Austin International Awards Program, a program with the Texas consular corps. This program brings together the consular corps from countries with a presence in Texas. According to TIBC Executive Director, Mr. Mortada Mohamed "TIBC is honored to support and sponsor this awards program." This program hosted representatives and diplomatic missions from over 30 countries, once again highlighting the breadth of outreach that TIBC can provide to Texas business." Adrianna Cruz, vice-president of international activities at the Austin Chamber of Commerce and the key host of this event, praised the event and said that it "showcased that Austin and Texas are true international partners." She further praised the role of all partners, including TIBC, for making the event a success.
Dr. John R. Litaker Elected as President of the American Friends of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine
The TIBC is proud to announce that Governing Council member Dr. John R. Litaker has been elected to serve as the President of the American Friends of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (AFLSHTM) The AFLSHTM is a non-profit, 501(c)(3), volunteer organization designed to suppor the activities of the London Schoo of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. The board works closely with Professor Peter Piot, the Schools' director on strategic and operational initiatives in North America. This includes alumni relations, fundraising, and business and industry cooperation.
Mr. Jim Wilkinson joins the Texas International Business Council's Governing Council
Texas International Business Council(TIBC) is proud to announce that Mr. Jim Wilkinson has joined the Texas International Business Council's Governing Council. Jim Wilkinson is Managing Partner, International Business and Financial Strategy, Brunswick Group.
Jim served as Chief of Staff for U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry M. Paulson, during President G.W. Bush's administration, serving as Paulson's senior strategist and counselor, Before Treasury, Wilkinson served as Senior Advisor to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
Mayor Andy Wambsganss of Southlake and Chief Counselor for the TIBC welcomed Mr. Wilkinson to the TIBC Governing Council, "The TIBC is proud to welcome Jim to our Governing Council. His experience and connections will foster our efforts to assist Texas companies, Chamber's, SBDC's and local economic development entities to launch market development programs and promotions overseas."
